Prompt ## and Word Count: 4. Candy; 970
Warnings/Comments: None at all: just a cute bit of fluff featuring Hisoka, Tatsumi and Tsuzuki bickering over some candy.
Ever since Hisoka and Tsuzuki spend a working vacation in Okinawa, Chidsuru and Rika had started sending Tsuzuki care packages of sweets. The contents tended to change with the season and often they sent things you could only get from the shops that catered to the Americans at the base on the island, things like marshmallow chicks covered in sugar, in the spring, and most colorful of all, candy corn and creamy pumpkins in the autumn.
Hisoka had never had much stomach for sweets, but Tsuzuki got wired up just from receiving the package itself, even before he unwrapped it.
"You sure you don't want some?" Tsuzuki asked, glancing from his partner to the sweets he was sorting into small piles on his end of the desk, and back to the younger shinigami's face.
Hisoka looked up from the report which the both of them were supposed to be finishing, but which -- as usual -- he ended up commandeering just to get it done on time. "Thanks for offering, but I'll pass: you're the one with the sweet tooth."
"Aww, you sure? I got plenty, but you're gonna miss out if you say no," Tsuzuki coaxed.
"Whatever," Hisoka muttered, turning back to their work.
He felt his partner's foot nudge his under the table, under the table. He looked up at Tsuzuki, who grinned at him. A kernel of candy corn hung impaled on the each of the tips of Tsuzuki's eye teeth. "Vhat did you say about a sweet tooth?" Tsuzuki asked, in a very phony Bela Lugosi impersonation.
"Very funny, but knock it off: Tatsumi will take that stuff away if he catches you goofing around when you should be filling out this paperwork," Hisoka warned.
As if the warning served to summon their very exacting supervisor, Tatsumi entered common area. "Tsuzuki, could you make some copies on your report for the incubus attacks in Tokorozawa?" he requested.
"Aww, and I was taking a break to have some of these sweets that Chidsuru sent me," Tsuzuki replied, taking the candy corn fangs out of his mouth.
"They will be here when you get back: I'll take care to leave you some," Tatsumi replied.
"I saw that coming," Hisoka muttered, rummaging among the file folders on the desk, looking for the one Tatsumi required.
"Aww, geez, you did this on purpose, you thief!" Tsuzuki whimpered, thrusting his lower lip out in an angry but cute pout. "You come up with these extra little jobs, just so you can help yourself to my sweets!"
"Now, now, these little jobs have to be done," Tatsumi replied patiently, as if talking to a petulant young child. But Hisoka could feel the secretary losing out to Tsuzuki's puppy dog eyes of doom.
"Tsuzuki, have you ever thought of setting some of your sweets aside to share with Tatsumi. You're always bugging me, offering me some even though it's not my thing," Hisoka replied.
"I'm not sharing with a slave driver," Tsuzuki grumbled, darting a glare and jabbing a finger at Tatsumi.
The blue-eyed shinigami adjusted his half-rimmed eyeglasses patiently. "There's no need to get so flustered," he said. "And that paperwork isn't going to copy itself."
"Tsuzuki, go and copy those pages: Tatsumi can have my share," Hisoka replied, patiently, starting to feel cranky from the swirl of angry and (from Tatsumi) aroused emotions that flowed around them.
"Aww, but I wanted you to have it," Tsuzuki argued.
"You're giving it to me, so after that it's mine to give away if I want to," Hisoka replied, shrugging.
"It's a good compromise," Tatsumi put in. "Kurosaki has the beginnings of a diplomat, if he can learn to use a less-sharp side of his tongue."
"At least I've got him to protect me from the likes of you," Tsuzuki muttered, taking the file and slinking away to make the required photocopies.
Once Tsuzuki had left the office to find the copier, Hisoka pushed half his pile of candy toward Tatsumi. "I learned right away, when I first became his partner, that you can't argue with Tsuzuki over food. He's generous with the people he likes, and giving this to you know is better than you fighting him for it."
Tatsumi nodded slowly, sagely and scooped the candies into a handkerchief he pulled from his breast pocket before slipping it into his jacket's side pocket. "You've learned to handle his more difficult quirks: you've succeeded where I failed him, in the time when he and I were partners," Tatsumi admitted.
A moment later, Tsuzuki returned with the sheaf of copies," Tsuzuki said, starting to hand the pages to the secretary, but he paused, eyeing the candy piles on the desk. "You didn't steal from Hisoka's share, did you? You're meaner than I thought--"
"Relax: I let Tatsumi have some of my share," Hisoka replied calmly, wanting to keep the fight from reigniting.
"Well, if that's all, I'll leave you to finish writing your report, Tsuzuki," Tatsumi replied, taking the copies and leaving the office.
Tsuzuki stared after Tatsumi before turning back to Hisoka. "But I meant those sweets for you," he said, a bit bewildered but not as angry as before.
"If it keeps the peace between the two of you, it's a small price to pay," Hisoka said.
"Why does Tatsumi always find a way to help himself to my sweets anyway, besides the fact that he's a mean jerk without a heart?" Tsuzuki retorted.
"I think he really cares, he just has a hard time showing it, and so he gets on your tail about things, because it's less awkward for him," Hisoka said.
"Aww, like the way you get grumpy with me?" Tsuzuki said, winking.
"Something like that," Hisoka admitted, looking away to hide the fact that he was blushing now.
