Hisoka would call his life before Meifu drab, even dark-colored: the shadows and strips of light in the crawlspace beneath the family house where his father banished him, the muted colors of his mother's kimono, the dull red of a night with a bleeding moon.
In Meifu, despite its nature as the realm of the dead, he found a vibrant life: the companionship of his co-workers, the playful needling and teasing that went on, Watari's wild inventions and strange concoctions; most of all, Tsuzuki, his partner, the rumpled overgrown teen with the sweet tooth, the heart that let him in.
