Author's Note: Written for < lj user="adventchallenge">'s "Teddy Bear". Featuring Hisoka and Tsuzuki at a Ministry of Hades office party.
Passing around the Secret Santa presents and a large square one turned up with Tsuzuki's name on the tag. Hisoka sensed a particular aura about it, but he said nothing, letting his partner find out for himself.
"Wonder who'd give me something this size and shape," Tsuzuki said, shaking it. It rattled softly, not hard enough to sound like something solid.
"Probably a box of socks. Or handkerchiefs," Terazuma grumped, peering from under the ridiculous green and red "Santa's Elf" hat with a jingle bell for a tassel that Wakaba had insisted that he wore to the party.
"Now, now, it's highly impolite to guess at someone else's present," Tatsumi chided, handing Terazuma a box of his own, which Tsuzuki had seen Hisoka wrapping up a night or two before.
"Trying to shut me up, eh?" Terazuma grumped.
"Well, not gonna find out what's inside unless I open it," Tsuzuki noted, untying the ribbon and sliding a fingertip under the paper, tearing it a bit as he set to work pulling it off. He found a box underneath, then he lifted the lid.
Inside sat a fair-sized teddy bear with blond fur and green eyes, its arms spread slightly, inviting one to hug its podgy body.
"Awwww, that's cute!" Wakaba said, smiling.
"He kinda looks like Hisoka, only more *huggable*," Tsuzuki teased, holding the bear to his chest in his crossed arms and squeezing it gently.
"That'll keep you from trying to hug me when I least expect it," Hisoka said, trying to sound gruff, but smiling instead.
"Good gift for you, Tsuzuki, since you're the most childish one on the team," Terazuma drawled, with a less than congenial smirk.
"Hey! I resent that comment!" Tsuzuki snapped, holding the bear protectively.
"Probably because it's true," Terazuma replied, turning his attention back to his box, opening the lid. "Huh. Pair of gloves," he said, taking them out. "What're these for?"
"Well, that should help with your flirtation with Wakaba," Tsuzuki teased.
"Flirtation?! Stop seein' romance everywhere you look, you cheap novel reader," Terazuma snapped.
"Oh, come now, you know you need them around me every so often," Wakaba said, breaking up the fight threatening to break out.
"Huh, not gonna hang onto that: I got a furry friend that I shouldn't be fighting in front of," Tsuzuki said, holding the bear up and booping its nose with the tip of his own.
"Besides, it's Christmas, a time for peace and good will among all," Tatsumi said, quelling the snarling.
Hisoka let himself smirk to himself: he could smell Terazuma's cigarette smoke on the paper and the box, but not on the bear. Even still, he felt the snarky fellow's aura clinging to the critter.
So much for all that snarling, when he had made the gift in the first place.
